Ball screw drive
A ball screw drive is a mechanical system that converts a rotational motion into a linear motion and vice versa. It consists of a threaded spindle and a matching ball screw nut. The threaded spindle is provided with a thread that looks like a spiral. The nut contains balls that run between the spindle and the nut.
When the threaded spindle is rotated, the balls move along the spiral and drive the nut in a linear motion. When the nut moves along the spindle, it rotates.
The main advantage of ball screw drives lies in their high efficiency and precision. By using balls, the friction between the spindle and the nut is reduced, resulting in a low-friction and precise movement. This enables accurate positioning and repeatability in motion.
