Poly vee belts

The ribbed belt, often referred to as a poly-V-belt, is a special type of drive belt used in various mechanical systems to enable power transmission between pulleys. Unlike conventional V-belts with a trapezoidal profile, the poly-V-belt is characterized by a ribbed profile aligned in the direction of travel. These ribs engage in the corresponding grooves of the pulleys, thereby increasing the contact area between the belt and pulley, leading to more efficient power transmission.

A characteristic feature of ribbed belts is their special construction, which makes them extremely flexible, highly bendable, and at the same time extremely robust. Thanks to this flexibility, ribbed belts can be guided more tightly than conventional V-belts. This property, combined with their excellent suitability for back tensioners, gives them high lateral stability and durability. Due to these characteristics, they are particularly suitable for use in compact drives with high speeds and small pulley diameters.

Ribbed belts are available in four different profiles, PH = 1.6 mm width per rib, PJ = 2.34 mm width per rib, PK = 3.56 mm width per rib, and PL = 4.7 mm width per rib. Belts with a PK profile are commonly found in the automotive sector, PH profile in household appliances, and PJ and PL profiles are mostly used in machine tools.
